First Congregational Church of Griswold

Church Lingo
At First Church, we know that we use a lot of fancy traditional words. After all, our church family has worshiped here over 300 years! We want to try to help you to feel more at ease when you are here and still not sure what is what. So below are some definitions to help:
-
Narthex- the place where we are greeted as we enter the sanctuary directly from the parking lot. You often will find the kids clamoring to ring the bell precisely at 9:50 AM. To the left is the door to a sensory room for those that need a bit of extra space to be comfortable.
-
Chancel- the very front of the sanctuary. Here, people, prmarily the pastor and deacons, lead worsip service.
-
Coit Room- to the right of the chancel, just beyond the piano, there is a door. This leads to our fellowship hall, which is often called the Coit Room.
-
Gloria Patri and Doxology- these are very old songs that we use so often that many of us don't need to look at the words. But, if you do, they are on the screens at the front of the church as well as in the blue/red hymnals.
